The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome becomes bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.” — Cicero , 55 BCE

Studio Sign for Wonderful Life
November 23rd, 2008 · No Comments
Doodling the studio sign for It’s A Wonderful Life: A Radio Play, Salem Rep’s Holiday offering. The play is set in 1946, so I tried to mix a little Christmas with a little post WWII design sensibility. Actually, in 1946 the design sensibilities seem to still have been prewar.

SketchUp

I am learning the basics of Google SketchUp a 3D CAD program by roughing in Salem Rep’s theatre space at the Reed Opera House. The basic space is correctly dimensioned, and I’ve doodling in some platforms just for fun, or maybe it’s the beginning of the Rabbit Hole set, but I don’t think so.
It actually has taken a couple days to get through the basic tutorials and get beyond making boxes and cylinders, but I’m starting to catch on.
I still prefer the 2D CAD package I use, much bigger muscles (much pigger price too).

Critic’s Review of ART at Salem Rep
November 11th, 2008 · No Comments
The Statesman Journal’s Ron Cowan reviewed Salem Repertory Theatre’s production of ART, Yasmina Reza’s Tony Award-winning play. About the set:
“Art”’s deeper issues are suggested by Jamie Wyant’s set, with gray forms which are solid but crumbling, although this is a play that can be embraced as much for its laughs as its intellect.

If all goes according to plan this sweet little mixed breed dog has finally found a home she can depend on.
She was returned to The Willamette Humane Society three times in her first 14 months. No wonder she’s a little confused.
In a few days Susan Carey and I think she will be part of the family. The cats are cool with the idea. The people are cool with the idea. Now we just need Lizzie Penny to get used to the notion.

Visit my site in a couple of days to see how the set turned out.

Too tired, ART opens at Salem Repertory Theatre in a week and a day. Still much to be done. Last week I thought I had this under control.

Bowser’s Boo Bash

The Willamette Humane Society held their annual dinner/auction costume affair last Saturday. My friend and colleague Ted deChatelet was the emcee, and my friend and partner Susan Carey, pictured above, was the host.
I had a great time. We raised more than $38 thousand for the new spay/neuter clinic and another $70 thousand more for general operations.
