Concepts 6/23/2008 My thinking is that Haley lives in the midst of the greatest design center on the planet, fully surrounded by visual stimulation of NYC, yet remains emotionally tethered in the Midwest. She has created a restaurant that is current and trendy, but at home, still a little bit of the country girl around the edges. Like many folks in urban environments, her public persona is hip and current but the home base is five years behind. She sacrifices home décor for shoes, etc. The opening scene catches her midway in the dawning realization that maybe there is something more to life than she had realized. 6/3/2008 My point of departure is on page ten of the script, “I found this a mazing apartment – rent controlled!” The rent control program applies to residential buildings with three to six units that were constructed before February 1947. So, given Haley's life situation, I think a prewar brownstone in Brooklyn Heights is a good basis for the set (see examples below).
